Summary
Level:
This module is offered to students who have successfully completed LL226 Japanese 3 module or those with good equivalent working knowledge of Japanese.
Main Objectives:
This module aims to enable students:
- to understand ideas in depth and carry out communication accordingly on a range of familiar social topics
- to work towards or achieve B1.2 of CEFR ( Common European Framework of Reference)
Credits:
This module is available for 24 or 30 credits.
Teaching:
21-week teaching, each of which will include:
- Asynchronous pre-recorded video(s) - accessible through Moodle, to be studied before the synchronous session
- 2-hour face-to-face/online synchronous session in small group
- independent study & homework
Students are reminded that 1 credit = 10 hours of study, therefore the minimum expected amount of study over the course of this module is 240 hours. 10 hours of study a week on average will be required including independent study.
Assessment:
Term 1 - interim test (10%) - scheduled on Saturday, 11 December 2021
Term 3 - one reading/writing test (50%) + one speaking test (40%)

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module, students should become able to:
- apply knowledge of grammar appropriate to the level
- understand the main ideas and details of reasonably complex texts on a range on a range of social topics
- engage in oral communication, describing with details and expressing opinions with justification on a range of social topics, with fluency
- write a clear, detailed text on a range of social topics explaining viewpoints objectively with appropriate register, where necessary, using correct characters

- expressing polite requests
- expressing purposes
- expressing politeness etc.
Grammatical contents:
- causative form of verbs
- honorific and humble expressions etc.
- some further Kanji (Chinese characters)
